Photography Class – March 16
Posted on March 25, 2008
We held another photography class on March 16. There were two students for this class. We had a great time and everyone learned a lot.
Students are asked to bring an item that they’ve found difficult to photograph. That’s what we work on in class. This class brought two very challenging pieces. We could have spent the entire class on just these two items.

If you’re interested in improving your close up photography, this class is a definite must for you! Watch this blog for announcement of our next scheduled classes.

Photography Class Report
Posted on November 26, 2007
This report is very late, but here it is.
During a recent class, I mentioned that I was still learning about jewelry photography. One of my students was surprised that I would still be learning. So, I told her about a Photoshop workshop I attended recently. During a discussion I mentioned that I did jewelry photography. He said, “So do I.” Further discussion revealed that he does photography for Rolex. Yes, I’m still learning. I have a wee bit more to learn before I can do work for Rolex!
As it turns out, I learned something new from one of my students that day. Watching her work with a tripod, she made an adjustment in a different way than how I would have done it. I tried her way and realized it was easier!
Want to take my Close Up Jewelry Photography Class? Have something you want to teach me? There’s a class coming up this Sunday, December 2nd. And there’s still room. Click this link to sign up.

Students Improve!
Posted on August 27, 2007
Here’s a bit of show and tell from recent Close Up Jewelry Photography Classes. I have before and after shots taken by 2 of my recent students. Well, truthfully, the after photos were taken in class. But, these are pictures taken by the students with their cameras. Add some instruction, proper lighting, focus techniques and staging and improvement happens.
First, here is a picture that Maureen had taken, before taking my class:
And this is a picture that Maureen took during class:

Maureen works with Polymer Clay and created the pendant and earrings in the pictures. Somehow she combines the Polymer Clay with Swarovski Crystals. I think there’s a bit of magic in there.
Maureen doesn’t yet have a website, but that should change, don’t you think?
And now for some work by Sue. Sue works primarily with Swarovski Crystals. Though she also does some nice PMC work too. You can see Sue’s work on her website on Etsy.
Here’s a picture Sue sent me – this is Before class:
And here’s After:

Private Photography Class
Posted on August 17, 2007
Last Friday, I held a private photography class at my house for a mother/daughter team. We had loads of fun, although once or twice we got a bit off topic.
And again, everyone learned something. If you’re interested in Close Up Photography, let me know. I do arrange classes at other times and places than what is scheduled.
Photography Class Report

We had our second Photography Class on Saturday, 07/07/07. For this class, we had 2 students. Each one brought their cameras and a couple of jewelry pieces for which they’ve had problems getting good pictures.
We had a really fun time. We started off with a presentation. I talked about theory and gave them basic information they needed in order to understand close up photography. The presentation had lots of images – both good technique and bad.
Following the presentation, we played with the cameras. I brought some jewelry, but we used the pieces the students brought. I took pictures with my camera and the students took pictures too. Then we uploaded them to the computer and compared.
The students took home a CD which had the full presentation, including pictures, as well as some pictures for them to play with.
I think that we ALL learned something from this class. And we had a great time!

First Photography Class
Posted on June 3, 2007
Today we held the first Close Up Jewelry Photography Class. We had only one student, but that was okay with everyone. Much more personal attention and it was a good first class for me. Our student was a friend of mine, I had built a website for his wife. I also have done all the photography to date for her website. He plans to retire in a few years and wants to do the photography and put her jewelry on the web for sale. (Currently, she doesn’t have any e-commerce on her site.)
It was a good first class, and we were able to determine some areas for improvement.
Our student comment “Thanks so much! This is a great start for me.”
The class was held at a local bead shop – And The Bead Goes On. If you’re in the San Antonio area and are interested in taking a class, visit their website calendar to see when the next one is scheduled.
